Hero MotoCorp elevates its game with the Xtreme 250R and Xpulse 210, two motorcycles designed to set new benchmarks in performance and versatility.

Hero MotoCorp is known for being synonymous with practicality and reliability, and as the years pass by, Hero has been making serious steps in the performance and adventure categories. With the launch of the Xtreme 250R, a radical naked streetfighter, and the Xpulse 210, an off-road-ready dual-sport machine, Hero is pushing its boundaries towards mean and powerful machines. These motorcycles are not mere iterations of their predecessors; they represent a significant leap in engineering, design, and performance, which showcases Hero’s ambition to establish itself as one of the top brands in the premium motorcycle segment.

Xtreme 250R: A machine of pure aggression

If there was ever a Hero motorcycle that demanded attention, the Xtreme 250R is it. Stripped down to the essentials and yet brimming with performance, it is Hero’s most radical naked motorcycle till date. The heart of the Xtreme 250R is powered by a liquid-cooled, DOHC, four-valve, single-cylinder engine, which generates 30 hp at 9,250 rpm and 25 Nm of peak torque at 7,250 rpm. This oversquare engine, capable of revving beyond 10,000 rpm, is designed for spirited riding, be it in the city or on the open highway.

What makes the Xtreme 250R stand out is its balance of aggression and refinement. Unlike other performance-orientated motorcycles that sacrifice comfort for the thrill, the Xtreme 250R delivers both in balance. The power delivery is linear yet engaging, allowing for strong acceleration from 3,000 rpm all the way to the redline. Whether cruising at 100 km/h at 6,000 rpm or pushing beyond 140 km/h, the motorcycle remains stable, confidence-inspiring, and free from excessive vibrations, something Hero has clearly worked hard to achieve.

The steel trellis frame, combined with a USD fork and a monoshock, provides precise handling, which is intuitive for both beginners and experienced riders. Despite its 167.7 kg weight, the Xtreme 250R is agile and effortless to manoeuvre. The MRF tires offer ample grip, ensuring stability through fast corners.

However, no motorcycle is without its quirks. While the dual-channel ABS is effective, switching between modes is tedious, a stark contrast to the much easier system in the Xpulse 210. Additionally, the instrument console, though functional, feels dated compared to modern competitors, slightly diminishing the otherwise premium feel of the motorcycle.

At Rs 1.80 lakh (ex-showroom), the Xtreme 250R significantly undercuts its rivals while offering a potent blend of power, practicality, and affordability. For riders seeking an engaging yet accessible naked motorcycle, this is Hero’s most compelling offering yet.

Taking Dual-Sports ahead with Hero Xpulse 210

Hero’s Xpulse lineup has already established itself as the go-to choice for riders who want an accessible, adventure-ready motorcycle. With the Xpulse 210, Hero has completely re-engineered the platform, taking inspiration from its Dakar racing experience. The result? A more refined, powerful, and capable machine that bridges the gap between weekend adventure and daily commuting.

The Xtreme 250R & Xpulse 210: A New Benchmark in Performance and Versatility

Unlike its predecessor, the Xpulse 200 4V, the 210 features a liquid-cooled, DOHC, 210cc engine borrowed from the Karizma XMR but tuned for off-roading. With a six-speed gearbox and revised final drive ratios (14/46 compared to the Karizma’s 14/42), the Xpulse 210 offers better torque delivery at low speeds, making technical trails more manageable. The 100 km/h cruising speed at 7,000 rpm is a welcome improvement, allowing for more relaxed highway touring.

A key highlight is the new double-cradle frame, which offers a more relaxed riding position and improved weight distribution. The taller windscreen and adjustable handlebar enhance comfort, especially for long-distance rides. Meanwhile, the suspension upgrade includes a thicker USD fork and a linkage-equipped monoshock, which has transformed the bike’s handling, making it noticeably more stable on highways and more forgiving in rough terrain.

Hero has also improved usability by integrating grabrails at the front and rear, which can double as luggage mounting points or assist in recovering the bike from tough off-road situations. The 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel setup remains unchanged, but the Eurogrip tires and suspension tuning make a significant difference in grip and ride quality.

The ABS system on the Xpulse 210 is vastly superior to that of the Xtreme 250R, offering three modes:

  • Road Mode: ABS at both wheels
  • Trail Mode: ABS only at the front
  • Off-road Mode: ABS completely disabled

Crucially, these settings do not reset when the ignition is turned off, which is a massive convenience for adventure riders.

At 170 kg, the Xpulse 210 is 11 kg heavier than its predecessor, which may not be ideal for hardcore off-road enthusiasts. However, the increase in power compensates for the added weight, ensuring better performance across the board.

Priced at Rs 1.86 lakh (ex-showroom), the Xpulse 210 is Rs 34,000 costlier than the Xpulse 200 4V, but the upgrades more than justify the premium. The pro-version is also on its way, making it an even more attractive option for adventure seekers.

Two Different Paths, One Common Goal

Despite their distinct identities, one as a streetfighter and the other as a dual-sport machine, the Xpulse 210 and Xtreme 250R share a common mission, which is to redefine Hero’s image as a performance-focused motorcycle brand.

For riders who crave urban agility and high-speed thrills, the Xtreme 250R is an exciting new option. Meanwhile, those looking for off-road adventure with real-world practicality will find the Xpulse 210 to be the best iteration of the platform yet.

Yet, one lingering question remains: should Hero have given the Xpulse 210 the Xtreme 250R’s 250cc engine? Given the Xpulse’s newfound stability and improved chassis, the extra power would have made it an even more formidable competitor in the ADV segment. For now, Hero MotoCorp has delivered two motorcycles that set new benchmarks in their respective categories. The Xtreme 250R is a statement of intent, a streetfighter that punches above its weight. The Xpulse 210 is a refined evolution, a motorcycle that makes dual-sport riding more accessible and enjoyable than ever before.
